Cleaning a motorcycle involves a lot more than simply scrubbing your vehicle with some soap and rinsing it down with the hose. To ensure your motorcycle and its many components last as long as possible, it’s important to give your model a thorough wash from time to time. So you can be sure you’re cleaning your motorcycle and its many components correctly, read over our helpful guide below!

Washing Your Motorcycle

To efficiently remove any stuck-on dirt or bugs from your bike, we recommend first grabbing a helpful spray and using it to coat your model in a mixture of motorcycle soap and water. Allow this to sit for a few minutes, before grabbing your sponge saturated with suds. You’ll find that this mixture makes it much easier to remove muck or caked-on grime from your motorcycle and you’ll only need to break out your scrub brush to wash your tires and rims. Once your motorcycle has been washed from top to bottom, go ahead and give it a gentle rinse and dry it with a few soft towels. If it’s been more than 6 months since your model has been waxed, we recommend taking the time to apply a fresh coat now. Just make sure your motorcycle is bone dry before you get started.

Caring for Leather

Many motorcycles have leather seats or accessories that will also need to be cared for on wash days. To do this, you’ll first need to grab a damp rag and gently wipe down all of your motorcycle’s leather components. Once this is done, use a soft cloth and leather cleaner to remove oil and grime from the leather. Allow the leather to dry and, to keep it from getting damaged by the sun, make sure to apply a helpful leather conditioner.

Lubing Your Chain

When washing your motorcycle, you’ll want to do your best to avoid washing or wetting your chain or brakes. That being said, it’s very likely you’ll wet your chain as you wash your bike, and we recommend re-lubing your chain after each cleaning just to be safe. To clean and lube your chain, grab an appropriate lubricant and toothbrush and rotate your back tire to ensure you’re reaching every link.
